Died – March 11, 2017

 

Ill. Brother Chawn E. Caniff, 33° was born April 14, 1957 to Edward and Josephine Caniff of Oakland City Indiana where he was raised and called home his entire life. Ill. Brother Caniff graduated from Wood Memorial in 1975, Purdue University in 1979 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. Brother Caniff was employed 30  years at Old Ben and Peabody Coal Companies where he was a purchasing/warehouse Manager. Brother Caniff was also the proud owner of Kleen Rite Cleaners in Oakland City, In. and Petersburg, In.

Brother Caniff was a proud member of various organizations such as Past President and longtime board member of Gibson County United Way, Boy Scouts of America where he achieved the highest rank of Eagle Scout. Brother Caniff volunteered with the local little League and Junior High Football along with various other community activities. Brother Caniff was a member of the Good Shepard United Methodist Church where he held the offices of Administrative Board Chairman and Trustee.

Brother Caniff was raised a Master Mason April 8 1981 at Oakland City Lodge # 467 F & AM, Oakland City, In. He joined the Scottish Rite on May 7, 1982, he was crowned a 33° Grand  Inspector General in Chicago, Il in 2006, one of the most prestigious awards given by the Scottish Rite. Other Masonic groups/offices held are Most Worshipful Master of his Lodge, Most Wise Master of the Scottish Rite. Member of Hadi Temple Shrine, Order of the Purple Cross, Knight York Cross of Honor and he was also a member of the Kiwanis.

Brother Caniff is survived by Children and grandchildren. There was a celebration of his life held on March 15, 2017 at Lamb Basham Memorial Chapel in Oakland City, In officiated by the Reverend Darin D. Nossett, Masonic Services were also held.

May our heavenly father have him now in his holy keeping.
